A few dedicated members held a meeting in 1989 and decided to start Durga pujo as the first step in bringing together people to uphold our tradition and celebrate pujo far away from home. The first pujo was held in 1989 at Sheffield Hindu Temple. The venue was shifted to Rockingham community hall in 1991 before moving to the current venue at Milton Hall. The original images from 1989 were replaced in the year 1996. With the sands of time turning it took heavy toll on the images which needed a complete new makeover. This was only possible due to voluntary work provided by a very skilful in-house artist who repaired and renovated all the images in 2012 when we successfully celebrated our silver jubilee year. A few original members have passed away but the indefatigable enthusiasm and hard work of some of the earlier members have been the source of inspiration as the onus is passing on to a whole new generation of members to continue the hard work and upholding the praxis started all those years ago so that the next generation is able to appreciate those deep rooted cultures. We thank all members and even non – members whose valuable contribution and hard work has made this pujo a success.
